Why did the board of education choose to move ahead with the bond election at this time?
  • The board has been studying the facilities needs of the district for a very long time. While most people understand that a school district must update and upgrade their facilities as they age and as they no longer meet the needs of students, it has been difficult to find the "right" plan. With guidance from the districts' school site councils, the board was encouraged to move forward with a plan - the plan that is now being proposed.
  • During the second semester of the 2003-04 school year, the board met with the combined site councils of the district's schools to visit with them about the facilities needs of the district, and to ask them for their feedback, suggestions, and recommendations. The site councils told the board it was time to do something. The plan the site councils supported is the one we will vote on in November. The feedback received from these groups helped convince the board that now was the time to go forward with a good plan that many people in the district could support.
